Why Telluride is Worth Visiting in the Fall
If you are one of the typical fall girlies like me who loves amazing views, charming fireplaces, lots of colorful foliage, and beautiful weather – Telluride is the right place for you.
While most things in the mountain town in Colorado are pretty expensive (it is a place where the rich and famous vacation) it is definitely worth it.
Especially if you visit Telluride Mountain Village, you’ll have the perfect backdrop that looks like it is straight out of a cozy romance novel.
The restaurants are fabulous, you have lots of awesome hiking trails available to you and the people are super friendly.
Apart from the price tag, there is nothing I did not love about Telluride. So if you have some money to spare, Telluride is the place to be this fall!

Awesome Things To Do in Telluride in the Fall
1. Explore the Fall Foliage
Most likely you’ll already see huge patches of color when stepping right out of your hotel room. But there are a couple of special spots where you can enjoy prime views if you venture out.
For a scenic drive, head to Last Dollar Road. There you’ll wind through golden aspen groves with stunning mountain views.
The Telluride Gondola is another one of my favorite ways to see the foliage. It offers a unique way to take in the fall colors from above, and it is totally free.
For those who enjoy hiking, the Jud Wiebe Trail and the Telluride Village Trail provide gorgeous vistas of Telluride. You can see the golden aspens contrasting beautifully against the San Juan Mountains.

2. Check Out Telluride Town
Telluride is a small, charming mountain town in Colorado surrounded by the San Juan Mountains. It has a historic city center that can easily be explored on foot.
I love all the little stores, impressive galleries, and cute cafés in town, so make sure to take some time for that.
At the foot of the mountain, you can find Telluride town, but if you head up the mountain in the gondola, you’ll land in Telluride Mountain Village – easy to confuse.

3. Hit the Hiking Trails
Telluride has some amazing hiking trails for all levels.
The Jud Wiebe Trail is a local favorite. It is a moderate 3-mile loop with incredible views of the town and golden aspens, especially in the fall.
For a bigger challenge, the Bridal Veil Falls Trail leads you to Colorado’s tallest free-falling waterfall, with stunning scenery along the way. You can already spot it in the distance from Telluride Village – but it is something entirely different up close!
Bear Creek Trail is another great option, an easy hike that takes you through a beautiful forest to a scenic waterfall.
Lastly, my favorite trail is the Mountain Village Trail, which will lead you up the mountain with an awesome view of the city.

4. Treat Yourself To a Spa Day
Telluride is a place for all the rich and famous, so it is only natural that most hotels offer amazing spa packages.
There is nothing more relaxing after a day of hiking than to chill in the hot tub in the crisp fall air, visit the sauna, and treat yourself to a fabulous massage.

5. Have a Meal With a View
There are so many good restaurants in Telluride – it can be hard to choose the best one. My secret tip: head up to Mountain Village – most restaurants there have an amazing view and awesome food.
One of my favorite restaurants in Telluride is The View, and it definitely lives up to its name. They have the most amazing truffle fries in the world, and you can see a stunning sunset over the mountains from there.
If you prefer to have your meal in a cutesy setting with lots of firepits and cozy fairy lights, check out Black Iron Kitchen and Bar. The food is amazing and it totally gives ski village vibes.

Weather in Telluride in Autumn
In autumn, Telluride’s weather is crisp and cool, perfect for outdoor adventures.
Daytime temperatures typically range from the mid-50s to the low 60s °F (10-16°C), while nights can get chilly, often dropping into the 30s °F (around 0-5°C).
The fall colors usually peak from late September to early October. You can enjoy them with plenty of sunshine and clear skies.
Keep in mind that it’s always a good idea to layer up as temperatures can change quickly, especially in the mountains. We went inside the hotel for a nap and were surprised with some snow when we went back out.

Where To Stay in Telluride
When looking for a hotel in Telluride, my biggest tip is to stay in the Mountain Village. The views are just unmatched, and the vibe up there is totally different. It is so cozy, cute, and romantic!
We ended up staying at the Madeline Hotel & Residences, Auberge Resorts Collection and we couldn’t have been happier with the choice.
It was a 5-Star experience all the way – they already contacted us before arrival to prepare everything to our wishes.
We were treated to hot apple cider, lots of champagne (complimentary), s’mores, and freshly brewed coffee. They offered yoga classes and a world-class spa.
The rooms were so cozy, and we spent so much time being cuddled up in the fur blankets.
And of course, the location is awesome – you can walk right over to the gondola that will take you everywhere.
